AWWI acts as a unified voice for the larger water utilities in Alabama before the legislature, the executive branch and the courts. It uses governmental affairs and legal consultants to help carry out this important work. AWWI also offers educational and networking opportunities.
The association provides members with:
- educational meetings that provide continuing education credit
- the ability to find solutions to common problems among our peers
- regular legal updates on current legal issues facing our industry
- friend of the court briefs in cases that have an impact on our organizations
- a governmental affairs program that supports legislation that moves our industry forward, while working to defeat or amend legislation that is detrimental
- tracking and monitoring bills that affect our systems when the legislature is in session, along with weekly reports
- scholarships that encourage prospective employees to get the qualifications they need for our industry and allow current employees to enhance their qualifications
